In a race with the modern technologies, the Public library “Vladislav Petković Dis”, Department for Children and Young Adults does not give up on book promotions and reading, therefore various activities not only for kids, but also for their parents, educators and teachers are organized.
The reading program entitled “Neverending Story – Reading Aloud to You!” was initiated with the aim of popularization of reading from an early age focusing on the fact that a book should be an integral part of everyone’s growing-up.
The aim of this activity, above all, was to promote the love of books and reading. Whether the children would react positively on books, the world of imagination, knowledge and possibilities, depended on many factors. The selection of right books was equally important as the place where they were read.
The stories were read aloud to kids in a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere; with expressive gestures during the reading while the pictures were reanimated using a wooden box with the story illustrations being set on a movable scroll. Reading was followed by a short conversation on what the kids liked in stories they heard.
Why is reading important? Reading incites:
- development of speech and language;
- development of logical and critical thinking;
- development of creativity;
- skills of communication;
- better school achievements;
- fostering empathy in kids.
Please, dedicate 15 minutes of your free time to reading to your children at home or in a library, it does not matter, and your kids will be eternally grateful!
